1902 dresser in old pearl with all new bottoms
1902 dresser in old pearl with new drawer bottoms
This dresser was salvage when I got it and it almost got tossed on the curb. What changed my mind and presented a challenge was that this dresser has a makers label and actually dates to 1902 which makes it exactly 115 years old. I thought to myself if it made it 115 years who am I to discard it completely. I was determined to save it which took approximately 20 hours of labor plus materials. The condition was so poor that the only option was to rebuild it. This resulted in all drawers getting disassembled, old drawer bottoms removed and brand new hardwood drawer bottoms cut to measure and installed. This was a very difficult job as you can imagine things that are 115 years old are not completely square and have suffered a very long life of use.
The top and legs were stained in a dark stain and protected in durable satin polyurethane, and body painted in old pearl technique which accentuates all the scars of a long life. The piece had hardware which I didn't like and therefore replaced with brand new mercury glass knobs.
This old lady is something special and I hope someone will find her as stunning as I do.
4 drawers all new drawer bottoms. Makers mark on the back.
