Primitive Eastlake dresser in sea glass

$0.00Price
  • This is an antique spoon carved Eastlake dresser or chest of drawers.  It has been stripped of approximately 7 layers of stubborn chipping paint, structurally rebuilt to achieve level and build detoriated back feet, and then painted with the 'Sea Glass' mineral chalk paint by Dixie Belle.  The backsplash has been added and it is not original to this antique.  The original backsplash was missing when it was found.  I found one from the same timeframe that esthetically corresponds to this chest. The piece is sealed in high performance flat out flat top coat.  The iron and porcelain wheels were added. The original hardware was cleaned and hand-painted to replicate authentic gold look. Drawers were lined with coordinating contact paper.  This was probably one of the most difficult renovations I have ever tackled. Many lessons learned, approximately 100 hours spent, but the result is a beautiful primitive piece of furniture. This beauty probably dates to 1800's but it didn't come with a birth certificate. It was salvage when found and it took a major leap of faith to tackle it and make it what it is today.
