Victorian large dresser with burl detail

Victorian large dresser with burl detail

$0.00Price
  • This is the larger of the two Victorian dressers dating back to 1860’s featuring beautiful hand-carved pulls and burled walnut detail. During the Victorian era the emphasis was on nature and whimsy.  Victorians wanted to escape the sins of the cities, and created these beautiful countryside homes surrounded with elaborate gardens.  This attitude is reflected in the furniture carvings featuring nature, with major themes being wheat, nuts and fruits.  This dresser had some missing detail that was rebuilt and drawers were reconditioned to open and close with ease. The exterior of the piece was painted in stormy seas, a moody blue which I chose specifically to accentuate the beauty of the burled walnut, ornate carvings and character of the antique woods. The top and drawer fronts were stained in a red chestnut oil based stain and finished in traditional finishing techniques. This dresser received brand new hardwood replica antique wheels as the originals were incomplete and in poor condition.  In all likelihood, these drawers were holding those tight corsets that made women waists so tiny. This piece is a rare, unique treasure and required a lot of know-how to make it this beautiful.  I hope it will find a good home along with the similar small Victorian large dresser I also renovated and listed separately.
