Victorian spoon carved dresser in fluff
I have created something beautiful. Almost the most beautiful antique I have encountered. This dresser was hiding at Brass Armadillo covered with little dust and a lot of poor attempts to fix it. We have rescued it from being forgotten at the antique mall and worked quite a bit to make it into a modernized version, an old lady that looks like a beautiful young bride once again.
Eastlake style emerged as a rebellion to a Victorian over the top ornamentation, but for today's standards it is very elaborate. The wheat theme is common for this style dating to the end of 1800's and this dresser has beautiful wheat theme spoon carved into the drawer fronts, and mirror surround.
The dresser originally had a swiveling mirror and candle shelves. The candle shelves were missing when I bought it, and that is better as it gives more vertical space to put your accessories without anything in the way. Since we have electricity candle shelves are a little outdated. The mirror is a new mirror, completely clean with no blemishes, and it received a new clean and strong backing. The top of this dresser was stained dark brown and sealed in polyurethane. The body of the dresser was originally deep red stain, which required multi-step process of stain blocking, painting 5-6 coats in white mineral chalk paint color 'fluff' by Dixie Belle, and sealing the entire dresser in polyacrylic and white wax. The ring pulls are original to the piece and were spray painted to fit the design. The drawers on the inside have been detailed cleaned and slightly sanded and covered with decorative paper. The piece received 4 oversized antique replica hardwood wheels to help it roll easily into any placement and float in your room. The three drawers were slicked up with no friction woodworker tape which makes them operate soft as milk. I was careful not to cover spoon carved details and have even cleaned the groves to stand out in its original contrasting dark stain.
If you are an antique lover but can't stand the dark old pieces, this is an absolutely breathtaking piece that has no compare in the marketplace.40.5 wide, 18 inches deep, 71 inches high including the mirror
